Resources
These resources share real stories of everyday harm, which may bring up strong feelings. They are included to show how people with disability have found ways to make things better in their lives.
Go through the material at your own pace, take breaks, and talk to someone you trust if you feel upset. Workers and supporters should use the resources in ways that keep conversations safe, respectful and focused on positive everyday practice.
Please watch the video below before using the resources.
The resources can be used on their own, mix and matched, and adapted, for quick “snack-bite” learning, deeper group conversations, one-to-one reflection, or ongoing practice improvement. There are videos, learning guides, reflection questions, a Board Game and webinars to explore.
These are some examples of how to use the resources, but there are many other combinations you can use.
People with disability can watch a short video. They can use the reflective questions to talk about what feels safe, what does not, and what is most important to them in support.
People with disability, families, supporters, or services can use the training pack to help others learn about everyday harm.
Support workers can use a video or a question in team meetings, supervision or peer chats to learn together.
Teams can use the training packs, videos, and reflection questions to think about their support and how it feels for people in real life.
People with disability and support workers can play the board game together to listen, learn, and understand each other better.
Providers and leaders can use the policy and practice guide to make support safer across the organisation.
